Pardon me while I dust off the blog. I’m sure y’all noticed that I’ve been in absentia lately.
Or maybe you didn’t. Which clearly means my ego is too big for my britches.
(Or I’ve been writing to myself … which is strangely ok with me. Not that I want any of y’all to go away. PLEASE DON’T! (see aforementioned big britches ego.))
Anyway, I’ve mostly stayed away because well I’ve been so busy that I have no blog fodder. Turns out bloggers can get writers block and writer burn-out just like REAL WRITERS! Who knew? Plus, while I have photos…I’ve not had time to get them off the camera, let alone actually do something with them. Like…post them. Or (ha!) edit them.
Still while I’m a week late, and several dollars short, I’m gonna talk about my birthday weekend. Saturday Alex and I joined several friends to celebrate actual birthday gal Kat’s birthday and my pseudo-not-quite-arrived yet birthday. We went to fancy pants restaurants where I realized how much of a hick I am, then we went to an Irish Pub. Oh the pub – It was fun! I had Jarrett spell out for me the fancy beers (he knows his stuff…) and eventually I was served a delicious cider.
In a tea-cup. A large tea-cup. (Which I have a photo of on the Facebook page and have trouble getting on to here…) I felt so dignified drinking this while the rest of the gang had pilsners and glasses. Presents were gifted and Jarrett and his lurvely not-quite-yet Wife (3 months y’all!) were extremely generous in gifting me with the camera I’ve been borrowing from them for oh…a year now. Tehehhe.
On my actual birthday I lazed around in the morning before getting up and lazing around some more. That evening all the family gathered at my parents house where my Mom and Alex were in charge of the camera. (What it was my birthday I have other things …. Like cake to eat) Following my birthday tradition of burgers, brats, beer, and cookie cake more presents were presented. YAY!
Now I’m not kidding when I say I’m a redneck, and to prove it check out these totally awesome gifts!
It’s a sugar bowl and creamer y’all! Aren’t they freaking adorable?! I love it!
Lastly in the evening we headed out to do fireworks. Only it was pouring rain. Luckily the rest of my family, like me, are in to things that go BOOM! So Alex and I made each other laugh with talks of explosives and actually you know…exploding things. It began to rain harder so finally we had to set off the big one – which amusingly enough, received claps from our neighbors. Clearly we’re the only fool-hardy pyromaniac ones determined enough to go hog-wild in the rain. And with one last big ol’ boom my 27th birthday came to a close.
I’d ask what y’all did for the fourth, but handily enough for the most part I know! Mostly because y’all are a thousand percent more on top of things than I am. So instead I’ll ask – what’s your favorite birthday gift of all time?

That is really hard! I’ve had some amazing gifts.
Beautiful dinners some filled with family and fun, lots of laughter and excitement. Others more intimate where it has just been my husband and I.
I’ve had beautiful jewelry, weekend aways and trips, books (I’m a book-a-holic) and most recently – our house
(We signed the day before my birthday)
I think for me the most amazing thing is that the people I love and who love me give me special moments and presents throughout the year because every day is a gift. Sometimes its small measures of thoughtfulness and other times its fireworks
But life is most certainly a gift and every day has surprising wonderful moments.

Ohh I love receiving books for gifts. That’s why I love my Nook so much! However I think you are right, its the memories that are the best gifts. Thanks for reminding me of that!
The sugar bowl and creamer are super cute!
My favorite birthday present… Probably my diamond necklace from my parents. I would also say celebrating my birthday two years ago at the Melting Pot and getting a fantastic bottle of wine. I really am mostly about spending time with the people I care about, and despite my January birthday and the usual blizzards that occur, I have always had people show up to celebrate!
I am glad you had a fun birthday!

Oh gosh I’ve never been to the Melting Pot and I’ve always wanted to go!
Happy belated birthday! My favorite birthday gift of all time? Being allowed to take my premature son home from the hospital on my 35th birthday…what greater gift?
(I see on your sidebar that you are struggling with infertility. We, too, went through years of that frustration, but now have 2 healthy sons. Hang in there!)

Thank you for my birthday wishes and the infertility well-wishes. I’d say though, you did get the #1 gift on your birthday.
Happy Birthday!!! Wishing you another year full of blessing and joy! BTW – noting sarett’a comment – we experienced secondary infertility (inability to have children after the 1st – there’s a 6 year age difference between the first and second). When I look back, I can still feel the intensity of those emotions – it wasn’t always pretty – but we hung in there, held on tight to God – and the stinkin’ pregnancy test finally turned positive on us! Praying for that moment for you!

Thank you for my birthday wishes! And stinkin’ pregnancy tests sum it all up – those things tick me off now!
Love your birthday tradition. Mine is on the 7th. I have been asking for a cookie cake from my husband for 5 years. I have yet to enjoy one.

Make a cookie cake! They are super easy.
I’ll post a recipe up here sometime in the next week for you.
That creamer and sugar bowl is too cute! My tradition is to always make my own cake, because I love baking, and I always get the cake I want. Favourite birthday present…? I’m not a big present lover, but I do love receiving flowers

Yes the sugar bowl and creamer are just perfect. I love to bake too, but I get stuck with that every other birthday so for my own I take a break.
Glad you stopped by and I hope you’ll be back soon!
Sounds like you had a perfect birthday!
Hmmm best gift ever….? There are sooo many but probably the cruise around the South Pacific and Bora Bora, that didn’t suck.

LOL Mine too! Course what could be bad about cake, booze, and explosives right?
Glad you stopped by and I hope you’ll be back soon!
I love the sugar bowl and creamer. My favorite gift? I was hoping for a kindle and my husband got me a slanket last year (one of those blankets that snap around you.) Ya, I wasn’t thrilled, but it turned out to be quite cozy.

LOL Did he at least get you a Kindle next holiday?
Glad you stopped by and I hope you’ll be back soon!
best gift is hard to choose, but most memerable so far: Husband and I bought a Toyota FJ cruiser a week before my birthday. He turned to me after we signed the papers and said ‘happy birthday!’ like he wasn’t the one who pleaded and begged and scrimped and saved for it for himself. Hah!

LOL Don’t you love when husbands “gift” you with their gifts?? Alex has done that to me only once…our first Christmas together. He learned quickly to not.
Super late to your lovely SITS day – sorry! Just wanted to check in and say happy belated SITS day. You sure spread out your birthday party – I like your style! Love your sugar bowl and creamer – so cure.

Aww thanks Nan and you are never late with a comment in my opinion. And I like to think of it as “constant celebration” with regards to my birthday, it makes the whole “older” process easier to swallow.
Well that and the beer helps.
Great question, “What was your favorite birthday present?” At first, I couldn’t remember any of the presents I received over the years on my birthday. But then it hit me and I’m sure compared to all of the other presents people have given me this one supercedes them all. On my 16th birthday, after passing my driver’s test, my Dad gave me a “gold key” to the family car. It was great.

That was an awesome idea of your Dad’s! My parents gave me a matchbox car :-p and the real car came several months later.
