Baby Bucket List.

As y’all know a child, while wholeheartedly wanted, isn’t really an option at the moment. Medically, financially, or relationshiplly (why yes I did make up my own word there) wise Alex and I will be waiting to have a child. One of the things I’ve been trying to do in order to find the silver lining to this cloud of infertility and more over my own personal wishes, is to make a bucket list of things I’d like to do

Before Baby.

So far this is what I have:

Personal

  1. Lose 10 lbs – I’m sure this will continue post pregnancy, but I also know that after a baby my body will never look the same. I’d like to fit into my wedding dress (not that I’ll have a reason to wear it) one last time before a baby arrives.
  2. Get the whole meal planning thing down – I love to cook, but suck at meal planning. Luckily I’m getting better at this now!
  3. Discover a new book series I LOVE – Hello Hunger Games
  4. Have more “wine nights” – :: wink wink :: hi gal pals, we need to plan this again.
  5. Meet some new gal pals – um, does anyone know of a dating service for friendships? Atlanta area bloggers? Ladies??
  6. Develop an exercise routine – plays off of #1, but I want something I can do on a regular basis that helps me mentally as well as physically. I’ve got one in mind, I just need to get more disciplined at using our treadmill.
  7. Shoot some more pool – yes this is how I met my hubby, but it’s a hobby I had before I met him and I LOVE it. Plus I used to be pretty good, not sure how I feel going out on my own so I need to find someone to do this with me so I don’t feel so odd given the whole “how I met my hubby” aspect.

House / Home

  1. Get new flooring for the house – this seriously better happen this year. I don’t think I can handle ANOTHER year of shitty linoleum.
  2. Paint our cabinets white – that should actually be done this summer. Good-bye prison gray!!

Adventures

  1. Go White Water rafting – no clue why. I just kinda want to.
  2. Go back to Disney World one more time as an “adults only” vacation. – Y’all, Disney World is 10X better as an adult. Just remember that … you think it’s a fun idea as a kid, wait until you can stay out till 1 a.m. riding rides AND DRINKING.
  3. Zip line – there are a lot of neat areas in GA I can do this, so I’m thinking sometime this year I can cross this off.
  4. Take a vacation, ANY VACATION – Yes #2 plays into this, but in all seriousness I’d be cool with a trip to the beach. I just want my hubby to join me and so far that is a big, fat no.

Financial

  1. Eliminate all CURRENT credit card debt.  -  That’s about $5000 folks. The way I see it, we’ll likely always have debt even a little. So I can’t say eliminate all debt because our house and student loans will prevent us from having kids for 30 years if we go that route. But credit card debt? That can be done in 12 months based on my current projections.
  2. Playing off of the above I’d like to pay off my car – we bought this fully intending it to be the family car, how much more family friendly would it be if I didn’t write a check for it every month???

So far that is all I have, but I may add more things as I go. Do y’all have any suggestions?

You are staying so positive about everything, that is something for you to be proud of. Love your bucket list, what a great idea. You should include me in on your next wine night hint hint.

You have a wonderful bucket list. I didn’t get to do anything like that until I was “old.” I’m making up for it now. ……..
Sure wish I could find someone to travel with more often (that doesn’t snore!). Seems like most of my female friends snore badly and when I don’t get sleep, I’m a real grouch.

  3. How great!! I love your list! Especially the Disney one! ;)

  4. That is a great list! It’s a good thing to realize that once the children are here, it’s hard to do certain things. And even if you can, it’s not the same. Especially vacations :)

I hope you hit every single item here!

  5. Thanks for sharing your bucket list! I also want to paint my cabinets white. If you look on Pinterest, you’ll notice that most of the awesome-looking kitchens do have white cabinets. I always shied away from white cabinets because I thought they’d be harder to clean, but I can’t deny they look the best.

    Great list!!

  6. I love your list. :) Especially the Disney World part. Because I mean, you’re so right. Not that I have basis for comparison–the first time I went I was 26. BUT I’ve gone with my son and without him and it’s magical in different ways for different situations. So I hope you get to go again soon! Or ANY vacation soon!

And finding friends when you’re an adult is so hard. It’s not like when you’re a kid and you’re thrown into social situations every day. It’s like, you have to make an effort to find friends and then to KEEP them along with working and other obligations. It’s a challenge. One of my friends uses OKCupid to meet friends, and I think some people use Craigslist. And keep blogging. You’ll meet blogging friends for sure, even though they might not be local.

OH WOW. I’ve written a book here! :) I’m enjoying your blog!

I have had such crummy luck with online sites that I don’t think I’d feel comfortable using anything like a dating site to meet friends. But kudos to your friend for finding a way! So glad you stopped by the blog today :)

  7. What a great list! Made me think about what I would have done first, if I had had a plan similar to yours. Oh, well, sometimes you just have to play it by ear! Visiting through SITS, have a GREAT weekend!

  8. Excellent baby bucketlist! A lot of people don’t do these things before a baby, and then feel rather embittered when they feel that having kids made them miss out on life.

  9. If you enjoy movies, I would add weekly movie nights to that list. Once you have children, you’re either too tired or too broke to hire or babysitter, or you blow you movie budget on seeing family friendly flicks. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but when you love films, choosing between the latest Disney or Dreamworks offering versus, say, Lord of the Rings, it gets a little depressing.

That’s a great idea – I’m not a huge fan of movies, but maybe I can find some other weekly activity my husband and I can do together.

  10. Great list! Class vi in WV is a very cool outdoor vacation- they have whitewater rafting and zip lines through the trees!  The restaurant is great and they have cabins in the woods – with flat screen televisions and hot tubs :) that would be a fun escape and check a few things off your list!!!

  11. This is such a great idea! I think I’m going to make a “before baby bucket list” too! My friends with kids have been pressuring me and now that I’m engaged they are pressuring me even more but I know I’m not ready to go down that road yet. I want to get through the actual wedding FIRST! A suggestion for your weight loss/fitness goal, try the videos on blogilates.com
