I don’t know about y’all, but I’m a jeans and tank top kind of gal. In fact, most days of the week when I’m at home I’m in blue jeans, a white tank and flip-flops.Sometimes though, Alex says “Baby, let’s go out someplace nice tonight.”As those occasions are unusual, I make sure to say a big fat YES each and every time. Only catch, I want to dress up for my hubby. So I’ll pull out my classic little black dress. We all have one of these, right ladies? It may not be black, it may not be a dress but in your closet is the “go to” outfit. Here’s the catch though…this dress doesn’t look quite right without a touch of help. Now, yes I could probably do a ton of sit-ups and get myself a six-pack of abs but here’s reality. I don’t have time for that! What I do have time for is to slip on a little shape-wear slip.

Here lately my go-to item has been the Vedette waist cincher in the Juliane style. Oh.My.Gosh do I love this thing y’all. So here’s the thing…I’ve tried shape wear before. Last time I went shopping I was at the mall, trying on a “waist-minimizing” slip and I felt like I was trying to squeeze myself into a sausage casing! That’s just the ticket to sexy, the scent and view of “hard work” right before a big date. Not that I sweat, I’m far to lady-like for that. I only glisten. No really. I do. Promise.Only Vedette’s products….they aren’t anything like sausage casings. You can get in and out of them with about as much ease as you can hope for in a product that is designed to slim and shape your assets. So when Vedette offered to send me one of their items to try, I was super excited. So far the past three times I’ve worn it has been amazing. It fits perfectly every time and even after several hours I’m still comfortable. You can’t ever tell I’m wearing anything more than a basic slip and because the style I have has straps…I don’t tug on anything! (Nothing more attractive than the shift, rub, blatant tug because your undergarments are shifting around.) I think the biggest complaint I have about their shape wear isn’t even their fault. A word of advice though, if you border between sizes listen to them. Order the larger size. It will make the item fit that much better upon immediate wearing.  Vedette is really great about advising you on sizing, I just was stubborn and ordered the smaller size. The style I received is definitely meant to cinch your waist. The one thing I won’t do is wear it to an event where I plan on chowing down. It does exactly what its supposed to do. It cinches your waist and your stomach. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not a buffet thing. Also, while I love my shape-wear, I don’t  know that I’ll wear it outside of special occasions.  I wouldn’t necessarily wear it out to the grocery store because how else would I be able to snack my way through the deli and bakery section? I kid, I kid. Kind of.Now for the fun part…Vedette is helping Our Marriage Adventure give away THREE (3) of their shape-wear items. Up for grabs are the Bianca, the Madeleine, and the Jaqui styles. NookColor

For Christmas 2010 I received the NookColor, a tablet reader that works primarily through Barnes and Noble. Its become my favorite new toy and because of that I wanted to share with you the Good and Not So Good as well as host a little giveaway to celebrate the launch of Our Marriage Adventure’s brand new Reviews Blog!nookcolor NookColor

Good

The NookColor does everything and more that I could hope for with a tablet reader, and it does it in color. The touch screen interface is similar to any of the Apple i-touch products (iphone, iPod touch). Some of the favorite features that I have been able to utilize is the web-browsing in full active color through any WiFi connection, the horizontal to vertical screen orientation, the children’s books, and the bookshelves.  The WiFi connection and the screen orientation are fairly self-explanatory so I won’t expand there. The Children’s books I can only see becoming more useful to me as Alex and I go forth with expanding our family as most children’s books offered have a “Read to Me” feature that allows your child to hold the reader and flip the pages by passing their fingers across the screen while a wonderfully animated voice reads the book to you. You also have the option to “Read” your story yourself. The bookshelves are extremely popular to me in part due to the fact that you can organize them in any manner you want. Additionally books are able to be added to multiple shelves. Basically you go in and create yourself a bookshelf, label it, and then add your books. You can do this organization either on the NookColor itself or on your computer.

Not So Good

I think by far my largest complaint about the NookColor is that unlike its predecessor the Nook3G and many other tablets, you are required to have a WiFi connection in order to link up online. While its nice to not have to pay for 3G service, it would be ideal to have that option available.Another downer is the lack of apps available at this time. Compared to other tablets, this does seem rather limited, however the device is relatively new and compared to say the iPad, which has a wide array of apps available, the price point is much lower so you do get what you pay for. I’m sure this will change over time as creators have the time to develop and put out new apps for the device. So in a nutshell, if you are looking for a tablet reader that isn’t linked to a single store or entity than the NookColor is a great device. It does have some limitations, but as long as you are aware of them walking in you shouldn’t be disappointed in your purchase at all.

Now then for the fun part – in honor of Our Marriage Adventure’s brand spankin’ new Reviews Blog, I’m going to share my Nook love by offering up one (1) free e-book of the reader’s choice purchased from Books-A-Million.  The contest will run until 8 p.m. EST on Friday, January 14, 2011. Shutterfly

I’m a picture taker. A picture lover. A picture framer and hanger. So it stands to reason that I need a great company that produces quality photographs every time AND gets them to me in a reasonable amount of time AND at a reasonable price. Shutterfly – they do all this and more. In fact if you go around my house over half of our artwork has been printed from Shutterfly. In fact, we even had our latest Christmas Card created by Shuttefly. So, here is the breakdown of the good and the not-so-good with regards to Shutterfy:

The Good

They are very reasonable price-wise, products are delivered on time or earlier (and its typically earlier in my experience) and are of the highest qualities. They are hard to beat with their wide array of products and price points that allows for the shopper to find gifts for anyone at any price. They also stay on top of the latest trends in terms of photo production and photo products. Definitely a must-use company if you are looking to create a fun calendar, photos from your trip, or even a quirky coffee mug for Dad!

The Not So Good

I would say that there are only two areas in which Shuttefly lags behind some of its competitors. First, its photo editing options online. As long as you have even a basic photo editing program on your computer you are fine, but if you are looking for Photoshop levels of editing, don’t look here. Secondly, Shutterfly limits the amount of creativity you can put into its pre-made Scrapbooking pages. As a Scrapbooker myself, I would appreciate a larger variety or more flexibility in creating my own designs on-site than is currently allowed by Shutterfly. In a nutshell, Shutterfly is a company I have used and will be using again for my photography needs, but I also look elsewhere when a super creative bug bites my bum!

This review was not sponsored by nor is it known to Shuttefly or any of its affiliates.

Hear About It. Read It. Enjoy It!

Sooooo first I should apologize for being completely remiss in my posting here lately. I can only say my mind is so full of stuff that I have not really had a way to put it all into words. Bad excuse I know, but what can I say???Now then on to the more interesting part of my post.Anyone who knows me (and those who read that Getting to Know Me post) knows that I love to read! I absolutely prefer to be sitting down to a good book. I have got to share my love of the established writers Nora Roberts, Christine Feehan, Stephanie Laurens, and the two up and comers Jeanine Frost and Yasmine Galenorn. Now I fully admit to my love affair with romance novels. However, I need a good story too. Hence the authors I have mentioned above. I’d like to give you a little breakdown about each, but I strongly encourage you to check out each one. Some of them do not even feel like Romance Novels so much as a good story that happens to have a little romance thrown in.

Nora Roberts: What can I say about her other than award winning and AMAZINGLY talented author. She and Stephanie Laurens are probably the two most “romance” centric authors of the group. Although lately Roberts has been branching out into a more mystery centered series under the psyeudonum J. D. Robb. Most of Roberts books are written in small series of either three or four  books so you do get to follow along with the tale. Additionally almost all of her books have a mystery to them. I would say only her most recent quartet is the purely “romance” set of the books. All in all a great and relaxing read!

Stephanie Laurens: Has perhaps one of the longest known series in terms of Romance that I can think of with her Cynster and Bastien Club series. However she is mostly known for the fact that all of her books are historical romance. They also all seem to take place in England (or with roots in England in the case of her Bride Quartet series…the newest books she has released) around the early 1800′s. I would personally like to give major props to her for the amazing detail and historical accuracy she pours into every book. I have learned facts about England that advanced courses in college never taught me! Lastly, one of the other things I LOVE about her work is the fact that she manages link all of her different series together. You will find in reading the Bastion Club novels that the characters have interactions that intermingle with the time series of events for the Cynster novels and vice versa. Her most recent series (Bride Quartet) also brings the players from those two series back into play as well. (Its like being able to catch up with long lost friends to see how they are doing 5, 10 years down the road!)

Next we have Christine Feehan: Ms. Feehan is probably the most widely recognized paranormal writer in this time. I cannot say I love all of her books,  but the most popular series otherwise known as the Dark Series has captured me. Feehan also brings the relationships into repeat use through her books as Laurens does, but does it over a much wider span of time. The Dark Series is primarily “vampire” in nature, although the characters are Carpathian and have a much more interesting history. Feehan provides you the most detail within her books going so far as to publish info regarding the Carpathian language, chants, recipes, etc that are mentioned through out her books. If you are looking to fully immerse yourself into a world then this is the author for you!And now we move onto the up and comers. I call them that because while they may have been writing for awhile popular success has happened in the last year or two and they do not have nearly as many books to their name as the aforementioned three. Still I strongly encourage you to check them out and clamor for more books like the other fans do!

Jeanine Frost: Jeanine Frost….absolutely blew onto the scene with her novel Halfway to the Grave. She has since expanded the series to four books with more to come and created a new series using prior side characters to further develop the storyline. If you like vampires then this is the author for you. Her series features half vamps, ghouls, werewolves and more! Frost explores every known love about the creatures you can dream of and turns into a story where you actually root for the good ones and boo the bad ones! She is definitely an author to watch!

And Lastly (but definitely not least! hah who didn’t see that coming!) we have Yasmine Galenorn: Ms. Galenorn has been writing for a while, but it wasn’t until her series “Sisters of the Moon” that she really exploded onto the scene. These books are probably the least “romance” in nature and the most “adult” in nature of all of the other authors I’ve mentioned. They are more like watching a good television series in the absolute visuals, scene setting, and story-line offerings she has that occasionally has a “couple” set up to advance the plot. The romance is secondary to her storyline, but she is still billed as a “romance” novelist. The one thing to note about Galenorn is that her books deal in all things “otherworldly.”  In other words, like Frost has many fantasy style creatures in her books, Galenorn does so as well but on a more focused scale.

That sums up my favorite authors and the reviews about them. Do you have any favorites? If so please tell me about them. I know I love to learn about new authors all the time. I hope everyone will at least explore these authors, you never know who or what you might like!
