Make Up Routine

ugly red face

Have y’all heard of Cassandra Bankson? I saw a story about her on MSN the other day and let me tell you just HOW much better I felt about myself in seeing her YouTube videos. (You should check them out here). She even taught me the importance of primer.

(Oh why did I not know of primer before now…I’ve fallen in love with primer.)

You see, Cassandra has cystic acne like me! And she is a model! I was shocked when I watched her video on the Today show because for years and years I’ve struggled with how my face looks like. I did a post last year about the “real” me and I cried after posting it because I hate how I look so very much. Anyway, after seeing Cassandra’s post about how to put on the make up. I thought I could show you what I use.

I’m clearly no model, but I do put make up on every day and its typically “drug store” style make up. So don’t think you have to spend 50 jillion dollars on make up to cover up your face. This is before my make up products. SHUDDER!!!

Now I clean my face and then in the order of the items below, I put my make up on. I use my fingers to pat on the primer, foundation, and concealer. Then its on to my powder (I swap between loose and compact) before adding the final touches. I get a lot of you may think this is a LOT of make up, but when you see pizza face up there staring at you in the mirror you can understand why I put it on. Luckily L’Oreal’s foundation is AMAZING with its coverage and doesn’t irritate my skin more.

So here are my products.

The best part of all this routine is 1. it takes me 10 minutes tops and 2. it doesn’t feel like I have make up on. Plus the boost in self-confidence makes it worth putting on even for a run to the grocery store.

And here is what I look like after my make up. (and in my car)

Re-Evaluating

Two Planners

Why hello roller coaster of life…would you mind stopping the ride now?! In all seriousness, one of the things that’s kind of stopped up my  brain lately has been stress. Stress from my job, stress regarding some personal things, stress from something silly like “What do I want to eat” … stress is eating me alive.

So Saturday I asked Alex to take on a more active role with our finances. I’ve handled these for a number of years because 1. I had more time and 2. I am better at it than he is.

(Not trying to come across snobby here, just stating what has been a well-known fact in our marriage.)

Alex has been asking and showing a lot more interest lately and finally on Saturday I just said

“Will you take over managing our finances?”

He knows that this is probably one of my biggest stressors / reasons to worry. Why – couldn’t tell you. I had a great childhood so that isn’t the root of my money fears, but man do I have money fears. So this is a HUGE step for me.

Alex has really stepped it up though and taken the initiative to get a planner, to ask me about our current set up, to define a way that he can use to manage the money, and to ask me to keep watching while he learns the ropes so to speak. The worry is still there, but man I feel better now!

Its OK

Today is an “Its Ok Tuesday” type day for me. I got this idea from Airing My Dirty Laundry so here we go:

————

  • That I’m so stressed out about being stressed out that I hid in the bathroom for ten minutes this morning.
  • To be contemplating the future of this blog because I honestly don’t know how to handle fears of being “un-PC” and “unlikable” even though I know the blog is ultimately for me.
  • That people think in a witch with a capital B because I’m very shy in social situations. I have to learn to accept this and accept that not everyone will like me.
  • That not everyone understands the real me.
  • That I’m not 125 lbs. My hubby likes my curvy booty.
  • That Alex’s birthday is in 7 days and I’ve yet to figure out a birthday gift.
  • That yet again I’ve not made my water drinking goal. I tried and that is what counts.
  • That this is the first post my stressed brain has managed to put together in a week.
  • That I absolutely dread stories about Celeb’s using surrogates so as not to ruin their figures when I would kill for a baby bump.
  • I am not perfect.
  • That I forgot laundry in the washer. Again. OOPS!
  • To have a rather odd obsession with Bones. Because I find things like skeletal remains rather intriguing.
  • To plan on purchasing a PINK Sig Sauer Mosquito pistol. Yes. I said pink.

That’s it for today – link up your own post at Dirty Laundry’s site.

Baby Bucket List.

As y’all know a child, while wholeheartedly wanted, isn’t really an option at the moment. Medically, financially, or relationshiplly (why yes I did make up my own word there) wise Alex and I will be waiting to have a child. One of the things I’ve been trying to do in order to find the silver lining to this cloud of infertility and more over my own personal wishes, is to make a bucket list of things I’d like to do

Before Baby.

So far this is what I have:

Personal

  1. Lose 10 lbs – I’m sure this will continue post pregnancy, but I also know that after a baby my body will never look the same. I’d like to fit into my wedding dress (not that I’ll have a reason to wear it) one last time before a baby arrives.
  2. Get the whole meal planning thing down – I love to cook, but suck at meal planning. Luckily I’m getting better at this now!
  3. Discover a new book series I LOVE – Hello Hunger Games
  4. Have more “wine nights” – :: wink wink :: hi gal pals, we need to plan this again.
  5. Meet some new gal pals – um, does anyone know of a dating service for friendships? Atlanta area bloggers? Ladies??
  6. Develop an exercise routine – plays off of #1, but I want something I can do on a regular basis that helps me mentally as well as physically. I’ve got one in mind, I just need to get more disciplined at using our treadmill.
  7. Shoot some more pool – yes this is how I met my hubby, but it’s a hobby I had before I met him and I LOVE it. Plus I used to be pretty good, not sure how I feel going out on my own so I need to find someone to do this with me so I don’t feel so odd given the whole “how I met my hubby” aspect.

House / Home

  1. Get new flooring for the house – this seriously better happen this year. I don’t think I can handle ANOTHER year of shitty linoleum.
  2. Paint our cabinets white – that should actually be done this summer. Good-bye prison gray!!

Adventures

  1. Go White Water rafting – no clue why. I just kinda want to.
  2. Go back to Disney World one more time as an “adults only” vacation. – Y’all, Disney World is 10X better as an adult. Just remember that … you think it’s a fun idea as a kid, wait until you can stay out till 1 a.m. riding rides AND DRINKING.
  3. Zip line – there are a lot of neat areas in GA I can do this, so I’m thinking sometime this year I can cross this off.
  4. Take a vacation, ANY VACATION – Yes #2 plays into this, but in all seriousness I’d be cool with a trip to the beach. I just want my hubby to join me and so far that is a big, fat no.

Financial

  1. Eliminate all CURRENT credit card debt.  -  That’s about $5000 folks. The way I see it, we’ll likely always have debt even a little. So I can’t say eliminate all debt because our house and student loans will prevent us from having kids for 30 years if we go that route. But credit card debt? That can be done in 12 months based on my current projections.
  2. Playing off of the above I’d like to pay off my car – we bought this fully intending it to be the family car, how much more family friendly would it be if I didn’t write a check for it every month???

So far that is all I have, but I may add more things as I go. Do y’all have any suggestions?

Little Pincher

This a brief glimpse of dinner with myself, Alex, and our house guest (here on known as HG).

Stephanie – Ewww y’all are going to eat crabs? {shudder} Those things freak me out.

Alex – {laughing} Yes they do. She is totally terrified of crabs and lobsters. She can’t even watch someone eat them. Its hilarious. Order it! Order it!

HG – Are you serious? They’re dead.

Stephanie – LALALALALALALAL!!!

Alex – {fingers pinched together} It’s a crab claw. I’m gonna pinch you. {repeated pinching me and tickling}

Stephanie – AHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Stop oh God oh God please oh please stop stop stop!!

HG – {staring in perplexity} But it’s just his hands?! I don’t get you.

Stephanie – Look its his fault he showed me the dumb YouTube video. They are giant spiders just waiting to eat your soul.

Alex and HG – {Laughing} You are just sad.

Stephanie – {Evil Glower} Eat. Your. Soul.!

And that ladies and gents is why romantic dinners are rare in our house. Alex thinks romance is pinching me with his evil crab claws. I think romance is candles by the beach. See the disparity? Sighs, men are just giant boys with toads.

Its A Loving Smile

Courageous

The past few weeks we’ve kind of been lackadaisical in our Love Dare. In fact, we’ve considered quitting. It’s just been really hard to share the love.

Moving a 3rd person into your home is hard. Its harder when you have different view points on the matter. I’m not going to pretend the last week has been super-duper easy (it hasn’t) but we keep plugging away. The church we attend (City on a Hill) did something really awesome and hosted a free showing of the movie Courageous.

Courageous Its A Loving Smile

{SNAKE KINGS BABY!}

(That really only makes sense if you’ve watched the movie. However, if you haven’t seen the movie check out the YouTube of that scene. It’s not the best quality but omg, HILARIOUS.)

Anyway, sorry had to just relive that scene myself. After we watched the movie we were actually able to come home and do our next day dare. The focus was greeting your spouse. I think this is an area we really struggle with especially during times of stress. We are grumpy from work, life, and rather than reach out to one another as the support structure we are supposed to be we end up shoving each other away emotionally. We might as well be on opposite sides of the track.

OMA 2326 Its A Loving Smile

I come home later than Alex and I tend to use the excuse that “well he doesn’t get up” as the reason I don’t walk in the door and kiss him. He uses the excuse that “I don’t just relax and smile” as his reason for not getting up and greeting me. The thing is, I’m tired of excuses. This dare will be one of our harder ones to overcome because a lot of these movements are kind of gut reaction and habit. Translation – they take no thought and we do them anyway.

My goal this week though is to live this dare. (Save me, help me, think of me!) Which means even if my hubby reacts with a grumble or a growl I WILL be greeting him with a kiss. Even if we have a text argument (please tell me we aren’t the only people who fight via texting) I will come home and kiss him hello. Even if I walk in two hours after him, and he and our HG (house guest) are lying on their arses staring at the t.v. while the dishes lie in our sink, dinner remains un-handled, and laundry is piled up I WILL be loving in my greeting.

I may also drive myself to drink by Friday, but hey – who said love was easy! Will you join me in being active in greeting your loved one this week?

Marriage Link Up

Do you read marriage blogs (I mean, hopefully you read at least one….THIS one.) Marriage is referred to as many things, I’m just as guilty of that as anyone else, but I think the best way to look at marriage is as a comedy.

There are tears, there is drama, but there is love and laughter as well. So in that vein, I wanted to do a blog link up. The primary focus of my blog is well, marriage, (Go ahead think DUH Stephanie…I thought it myself) and there are a TON of Mommy blogs out there. Which is great an all, unless you know you don’t have kids but you do have a husband. Or a wife, but typically it’s a husband.

Sometimes we too need advice on what to do or how to handle a situation. Lord only knows I can’t be the only wife out there who looks at her spouse and goes “That is it! Where is the damn receipt and return line?” Granted, hours later I may look at him with hearts in my eyes and think he’s a real life “Prince Charming.”

So here’s what I’d love to do: Link up a blog you love, your own blog, a random blog you’ve found as long they talk about MARRIAGE. Once I have all the links I’ll great a page up in the header that is devoted just to other great marriage blogs. This way we all have a way to go find advice from other great married couples for those “WHY DID I MARRY YOU?” moments all the way to the “How do I say I Love You even more?” moments.
