Seven Things

Spa Day

I never know how to start these kind of blog posts. Wherein I’m all brain-drain type sharing with y’all because the ability to form complete blog posts that make sense seems to have run away. So I guess I’ll dive right on in.

1. It’s probably old news to some of y’all, but the IPhone app “WiFi Photo” is an awesome free app that allows you to access a folder of all of your photos to download over a wireless network. If you use your phone to take photos a lot you should totally get this app.

2. I think I’m going to take some advice / lessons from Katie at Marriage Confessions about blogging and family. I’ve held back on a lot of posts lately because I didn’t want to deal with the family / friend fall out in  person. Yet the blog is my way of sorting through the truths of marriage, infertility, etc so I’m enacting a “no talking” rule with people I know in real life. So if you know me in person just kinda be fair warned. The blog topics are officially off-limits for chatting about in real life / personal Facebook.

3. Valentine’s Day is coming up. I don’t think I like this as I have no clue what to get Alex. Christmas was hard enough. Do you think he’d like if I simply walked the dog for one week both morning and night as a gift?

4. This needs no words.

5. I lurv y’all. However as a special shout out to Mindee I must share the redneck photo below. Mindee – please don’t cry, but yes we are THOSE PEOPLE.

High note? They are down and put away as of last night.

6. Now that I’ve settled on item #2 up there, I probably have a LOT more blog posts that I’m going to try to space out to share with y’all. Especially about marriage. Which is convenient given the title of the blog and all.

7. A special shout out to my little bro who stands a half-foot taller than me. Happy Birthday Booger Breath! (ahh sibling love never fades.)

How was y’all’s weekend?

Santa Came to Our House!

Wowser I cannot believe that Christmas has not only come but also gone!

371b21bc Santa Came to Our House!

It was such a very merry Christmas this year, what with the visiting of family, the multitude of pumpkin pies, and then the presents.

As I said earlier, I got my best gift earlier this year when Alex was able to find a new job, but boy oh boy did I luck out under the tree too!

I received the much reviewed FLIP video camera so now y’all can see just how much of a redneck I am if I ever get the courage to VLOG.

I also received some warm winter wear from my hubby and my brother. So with this cold snap I am feeling MIGHTY warm thanks to them!

I received some pajamas, a fun lunch box, and all sorts of other goodies that will allow me to spoil myself post-Christmas too!

However Santa :: cough My Mama and Daddy cough :: and Alex must have mis-communicated this year. That or they want me to open a bakery because under that tree was also these two shiny babies!

Talk about a Merry Christmas to me!!

Now one of these I will get to return and switch out for accessories for the other one, but I’m so torn! I feel so guilty returning a gift and Alex’s (joking) solution of putting one on one side of the stove and the other on the other side of the stove doesn’t seem to be the ideal answer. Yet.

What’s a gal to do besides count her amazing blessings?!

So what did Santa bring you this year?!?

I am so amazingly grateful that my biggest Christmas wish came true. Today Alex started his brand new job. A job that puts both him, our finances, and our time as  a couple in a better place than we were before the lay-off. After this, any other gift I receive is literally icing on the cake. (Or a bow on a present as the case may be.)

Ornaments from Christmas Past

AlexOrnament

The lights have been strung, the ribbon wound with care, and the ornaments dangle from the bottom limbs to the top.

Our tree is a work of art.

(OK so maybe its more like Picasso than Rembrandt but it’s still art!)

My favorite part of this tree is that the good majority of the ornaments are special to us in a lot of ways.

Alex has a number of ornaments he loves, but I know that this cradle ornament is super special to him because it reminds him of his Mom. She’s not around anymore for him to visit with over Christmas time so having this ornament brings her a little closer during the holidays.

I have lots of ornaments I love too. (I mean who wouldn’t love an ornament that says “Brings us your loons and holly.”) However, like Alex I have a few that are extra special to me like this pickle which reminds me of my brother. He’s also no longer with us in body, but he’s definitely here in spirit.

(Especially when we send my “baby” brother, who is six feet tall, diving under the tree for more gifts.)

Holidays are so fun, and so are ornaments. Which makes the little things like ornaments that remind us of loved ones who we’ve lost to things like cancer, which is the case for both Alex’s mother and my brother, seem all that more precious.

What about you, do you have a special ornament or two on your tree? Why is it special?

HELP SANTA!

OK I think I went overboard this year. You see last year around Christmas, Santa made a rather surprise visit to Alex’s jeep during the night and left a wonderful stocking.

Then at Easter the Easter Bunny also stopped by not just this year, but the year before as well!

So I’ve sort of set a precedent for the whole contacting the appropriate party for a fun gift thing and here we are  a week and a half away from Christmas.

I haven’t even managed to shoot off a proper letter to the red, jolly man in velour suit! (Well except for the one about a dadgumbreak!)

Since we just found out yesterday that Alex will shortly have a job. I could contact the miracle man.

(Quick pause for the heaven’s rejoicing and the loud thumping as I land in a rather ungainly head on the floor from jumping so high.)

Only, I have no clue what to ask for Alex’s stocking. I’m at a loss. Alex SAYS to not worry about it, but where is the magic in not waking up to at least an orange, some chocolates, and a small little stocking gift??

There is no magic to that is what I say!

So, I’m curious. What do you find from Santa in your stocking on Christmas morning?

Dear Santa,

Hey there big guy, I hope the year has treated you well. Are you ready for the final push before your annual vacation to the Keys? I’m sure you can’t wait to hand out all of the goodies to the girls and boys of the world!

Alex and I will ensure that we leave out enough cookies, milk, and carrots for you AND any potential helpers you have with you this year because we want to make sure we share the joy.

I hate to ask for something that probably isn’t in your big bag of magic, but this year I do have one really big Christmas wish.

Santa, I’d really like a break for Christmas this year. We’ve dealt with the diagnosis for Infertility. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression. The meds are helping though, so I can handle this I think. Then Alex and I almost got a divorce, but we’ve managed to come really far in this by doing our Love Dare and some marriage counseling. Oh and my Dad was in a motorcycle accident, but luckily is doing a lot better. Now, only a month ago Alex was laid off from his job, only to end up in the ER a few days later.

I know we are lucky to have my income and to have the ability to pay our bills (most of the time), but so many of our friends are succeeding and flourishing. Alex and I don’t want a mansion (who would want to dust the place??), but we would like the ability to pay our mortgage without stressing. We just want a chance to be comfortable. We’d like him to go to work and have a chance at a career with growth and future potential. However, right now we’d take a job where he could earn an income.

We’re trying so hard to be grateful for the many many blessings we have, but its harder and harder with each piece of straw placed on our backs. So for Christmas this year, all I’d like is a break.

I sure hope your trip is safe and warm (though I imagine many things will be warmer than the North Pole). Please be sure to give Dasher and Prancer a little nose rub from me as I’ve always been huge fans of their work.

With much love and a small sigh,

Stephanie

Smile for the Camera

Catphoto

Last night we took our Christmas photos to utilize on our Shutterfly Christmas Cards.

As always hilarity ensued. Alex and I can’t seem to help joking around with one another as we take a photo.

Edit FunnyChristmas2011 200x300 Smile for the Camera

Then of course I wanted to make sure we got a photo with the cats. They were just THRILLED to be a part of this photo. Can’t you tell?

Catphoto 175x300 Smile for the Camera

We were finally able to take a photo that we can use on the card. Which meant Alex thought we were done, but oh no. I, the ever annoying photog of the family, decided we needed a photo of just him to send to his Grandparents.

(Being the annoying photog is great. You get out of photos faster AND get to torture your family and friends longer.)

(And if you’re lucky you get hilarious photos out of it.)

(I hope so or Alex will use this as the perfect excuse for me to stop annoying him with my camera at Christmas time.)

Merry Exploded Up in Here

Guy Night

Alex and I have been discussing how very little it feels like Christmas to us. I am honestly not sure what it is that is leading to the feeling, but there you have it. We yanked out all of our Christmas decorations and then just let them sit in boxes.

(There are TWO Christmas tree boxes in that photo. Yes y’all, we have TWO trees.) Y’all we have retarded amounts of Christmas decor. Does anyone else have this problem?

Anyway, so this weekend we decided to yank out all of the decorations and you know, DO SOMETHING with them.

We decorated our fireplace mantel and lit a fire while the rest of the space was decorated.

I was able to set our little Nativity on the table we had to move in order to fit our Christmas tree.

Lastly, I set up our Christmas tree. (You notice I said “I set up”…)

tree 202x300 Merry Exploded Up in Here

I set up the tree because Alex and his friend were hanging out at our place watching Indiana Jones movies. LOTS of Indiana Jones movies. I do not like Indiana enough to tolerate 7 hours of movies, yet this is what happened at our house.

Ain’t ya jealous?

What Christmas decor do you have set up?
