Getting Crafty

I love decorating my house, I know I’ve mentioned this to y’all before. Alex is content to stand to the side and just shake his head at the crazy that is his wife. So knowing that following the Fourth of July lots of patriotic items go on sale I headed to a Hobby Lobby and went hog-wild.

A little too hog wild. (Alex had to carry most of this because my hands were full with fall stuff. Oops!)

Then I took the glue gun and had a blast! By the time I was done I had a wreath for the front door.

crafty10 300x225 Getting CraftyNow I did all this with silk flowers because I’m cheap. This is also why I made all this patriotic gear after the fourth…everything was on clearance. So next year when Memorial Day comes around, VOILA! I’ll be ready. I’ll be ready all the way through Labor Day.

Now to start working on the Fall wreath.

Birthdays, Teacups and things that go Boom!

Pardon me while I dust off the blog. I’m sure y’all noticed that I’ve been in absentia lately.

Or maybe you didn’t. Which clearly means my ego is too big for my britches.

(Or I’ve been writing  to myself … which is strangely ok with me. Not that I want any of y’all to go away. PLEASE DON’T! (see aforementioned big britches ego.))

Anyway, I’ve mostly stayed away because well I’ve been so busy that I have no blog fodder. Turns out bloggers can get writers block and writer burn-out just like REAL WRITERS! Who knew? Plus, while I have photos…I’ve not had time to get them off the camera, let alone actually do something with them. Like…post them. Or (ha!) edit them.

Still while I’m a week late, and several dollars short, I’m gonna talk about my birthday weekend. Saturday Alex and I joined several friends to celebrate actual birthday gal Kat’s birthday and my pseudo-not-quite-arrived yet birthday. We went to fancy pants restaurants where I realized how much of a hick I am, then we went to an Irish Pub. Oh the pub – It was fun! I had Jarrett spell out for me the fancy beers (he knows his stuff…) and eventually I was served a delicious cider.

In a tea-cup. A large tea-cup. (Which I have a photo of on the Facebook page and have trouble getting on to here…) I felt so dignified drinking this while the rest of the gang had pilsners and glasses. Presents were gifted and Jarrett and his lurvely not-quite-yet Wife (3 months y’all!) were extremely generous in gifting me with the camera I’ve been borrowing from them for oh…a year now. Tehehhe.

On my actual birthday I lazed around in the morning before getting up and lazing around some more. That evening all the family gathered at my parents house where my Mom and Alex were in charge of the camera. (What it was my birthday I have other things …. Like cake to eat) Following my birthday tradition of burgers, brats, beer, and cookie cake more presents were presented. YAY!

Now I’m not kidding when I say I’m a redneck, and to prove it check out these totally awesome gifts!

sugar and cream 300x209 Birthdays, Teacups and things that go Boom!

It’s a sugar bowl and creamer y’all! Aren’t they freaking adorable?! I love it!

Lastly in the evening we headed out to do fireworks. Only it was pouring rain. Luckily the rest of my family, like me, are in to things that go BOOM! So Alex and I made each other laugh with talks of explosives and actually you know…exploding things. It began to rain harder so finally we had to set off the big one – which amusingly enough, received claps from our neighbors. Clearly we’re the only fool-hardy pyromaniac ones determined enough to go hog-wild in the rain. And with one last big ol’ boom my 27th birthday came to a close.

I’d ask what y’all did for the fourth, but handily enough for the most part I know! Mostly because y’all are a thousand percent more on top of things than I am. So instead I’ll ask – what’s your favorite birthday gift of all time?

Peter CottontailHere comes Peter Cottontail,Hopping’ down the bunny trail,Hippity, hoppity,Easter’s on its way.Did Peter Cottontail / the Easter Bunny come to your house this year? I saw so many families and tweets and status updates today as families gathered and celebrated the day. Many times I saw references to a hunt for eggs!Easter came with a bit of a hunt for us too this year. As a surprise to Alex I decided to add a new twist to our traditional Easter Basket exchange by waking him with a fun little note!”Well Hello Alex, I hopped through early this morning and since you were still sleeping I hid your basket and left you clues in these eggs. Good Luck!”97abf6e2 The Great Easter Basket Hunt(Camouflage eggs were just the ticket for a hidden egg Easter basket hunt!)8872bd6e The Great Easter Basket HuntThe clues continued and were hidden from his sock drawer to our toasting goblets from the wedding and even managed to find themselves out ON TOP of his Jeep. Some were a tad harder to find, perhaps I should have stuck the clue to the one in the coffee grinds a bit closer to the beginning.e2983c04 The Great Easter Basket HuntAfter many moments in thought and few moments of just pure laughter Alex was finally able to find and open his Easter Basket. From chocolate rabbits to jelly beans the basket was decorated and filled, plus it even included a toy!(I mean, really, doesn’t ever great egg seeker deserve a toy to reward all that hard work?)339d819f The Great Easter Basket HuntOnly kicker…um Peter Cottontail forgot to leave some batteries. So for now, Alex’s toy is our latest table decor.Did you get an Easter basket? What was in it?signature The Great Easter Basket Hunt

Wuv, True Wuv

Do you remember Valentine’s Day in elementary school? Everyone would create a box or envelope or just clean off t heir desk and you would pass out cards. Every person received a card, but maybe that cute boy who pulls your ponytail would get the extra special card with an extra piece of candy. Then you head to middle school and high-school where the school may sell flowers and you would just hope that you’d get that special delivery. If you were one of the lucky ladies who had a guy you’d get a stuffed animal or chocolates or BOTH! (These gifts still work guys, gets us all sappy for young love days…) [Read more...]

Time to Wrap it Up

Well its the end of 2010 and I for one can’t wait to see what 2011 brings us. Right now I’m working on the brand-new blog header for January (and playing World of Warcraft) so this will be a short post today. I’m not really going to push it out there for everyone to see, but I did want to share Alex’ surprise stocking for everyone to see.

Christmas Eve after Alex went to bed I gathered the supplies I had acquired when I went to Wal-Mart earlier that day (And holy cow will I plan much better in the future. Never. Ever. Again.) I laid everything out in our laundry room and started to stuff his stocking. [Read more...]

The Most Wonderful Part of the Season

One of my absolute favorite things about the holidays is visiting with people.

Especially people I don’t see often. And while spending time with my family was super wonderful, probably one of the biggest highlights of the entire Christmas days off mini-vacation I had, was seeing old friends.

We went to dinner and talked and talked and talked (no really, we talked so long that the servers finally asked if they could have one of our tables to seat other people) about what was going on in our lives now and reminiscing about when we were younger. It’s great to see the fluidity of our friendships as we all get older. [Read more...]

Pressing Pause on the Holiday

Christmas is this week, and I am not quite so excited. See this year things are going to be different. Very different.

Every year we get up on Christmas morning and either go to, or are already at, my Mom & Dad’s house. We rise and shine and first things first rush to our stockings to open gifts like the 5 year olds we secretly are. Then Mom makes her mimosas for all and a yummy breakfast casserole. We eat, drink, get merry and get dressed before all gathering around the tree. Where gifts are open round-robin style. Every person gets a gift, every person opens their gift one person at a time, and repeat. [Read more...]

Guide to Surviving the Holidays

As we are all gearing up for the holidays, we may all be feeling some ahem stress. Stress over what gifts to give (always my biggest issue), what parties to attend, how your budget is going to handle the extra out-flow this month, and how to be in a million places at once. And since I’m just as crazy stressed as the rest of you, I thought I’d ask for some advice from a guest poster.
